InspiHER{MLIgnite} - Session 01 The InspiHER{MLIgnite} Workshop Session 01, organized under the flagship initiative InspiHER{Tech}V4.0, was a successful and insightful educational session focused on introducing undergraduates to the fundamentals and real-world applications of Machine Learning. The workshop aimed to empower students, especially young women in technology, by creating an engaging learning platform that combined academic knowledge with industry exposure. The session was conducted by Dr. Prakash Chamika Hewawasam, who shared valuable insights into Machine Learning, Big Data, and the transformation of modern industries through intelligent technologies. She explained how Machine Learning has become an essential part of sectors such as finance, healthcare, cybersecurity, and business intelligence, while also highlighting its growing demand worldwide. Participants were introduced to key Machine Learning concepts, including supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning, along with the complete Machine Learning workflow from data collection and preprocessing to model training and deployment. Real-world applications such as fraud detection systems, recommendation platforms, predictive analytics, virtual assistants, and facial recognition technologies were discussed to help participants understand the practical impact of Machine Learning in everyday life. A major highlight of the session was the discussion on the use of Machine Learning in the banking and financial sector. Dr. Prakash explained how intelligent systems are used for fraud detection, customer analysis, risk management, and personalized banking experiences, allowing participants to understand the industrial relevance of the field. The workshop also encouraged students to pursue continuous learning, strengthen their technical foundations, and explore innovation within emerging technologies. The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Project Secretary, expressing appreciation to the speaker, organizing committee, IEEE WIE representatives, and all participants for contributing to the success of the event. A virtual token of appreciation was presented to the guest speaker, followed by a virtual group photo session celebrating the successful completion of the workshop. Overall, the workshop provided participants with valuable knowledge, practical exposure, and inspiration to further explore the field of Machine Learning and technological innovation.
