April 22, 2026 · 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM @ Online event

Description

This 90-minute session was organized as a key component of PES Day 2026, aligned with the theme “ Innovating Today, Energizing Tomorrow .” The primary objective of the session was to introduce undergraduate students to the professional landscape of the power and energy sector and to highlight the technical and professional benefits of engaging with the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES). The session was conducted by Dr. Rasara Samarasinghe, Chair of the IEEE PES Sri Lanka Chapter and Director of the Engineering Research Unit at the University of Moratuwa. The discussion covered key areas including the global transition towards sustainable energy systems, opportunities available through PES membership, and the role of students in contributing to modern power and energy solutions. The session was delivered through an interactive presentation supported by real-world insights into current industry trends and challenges. Active engagement was observed throughout the session, with approximately 40 participants interacting directly with the speaker through questions and discussions, particularly regarding IEEE PES activities and membership benefits. As an outcome, participants gained a clear understanding of the importance of professional involvement in the energy sector, as well as awareness of the technical resources, networking opportunities, and career development pathways available through IEEE PES.
