InspiHER{Tech}V4.0 - InspiHer{MLIgnite} - Session 02

May 9, 2026 · 2:00 PM - 4:05 PM @ Online event

Description

InspiHer{MLIgnite} - Session 02 The InspiHER{MLIgnite} Workshop Session 02, organized under the flagship initiative InspiHER{Tech}V4.0, was a highly interactive and knowledge-driven practical session focused on providing undergraduates with hands-on exposure to Machine Learning and Data Visualization techniques. The workshop aimed to empower students through practical technological learning experiences while enhancing their analytical and technical skills using real-world datasets and industry-relevant tools. The session was conducted by Dr. Prakash Chamika Hewawasam, who guided participants through practical Machine Learning workflows and data analysis techniques. The workshop began with a welcome speech delivered by the Project Vice Chairperson, who emphasized the importance of practical learning and encouraged participants to actively engage throughout the session. During the practical segment, participants worked with their laptops while exploring a Movies Dataset obtained from Kaggle. Dr. Prakash introduced the Kaggle platform and demonstrated how datasets are prepared, organized, and analyzed in Machine Learning projects. Participants learned the importance of data preprocessing, identifying missing values, and structuring datasets effectively using spreadsheet tools and analytical methods. A major focus of the workshop was understanding Python libraries, prediction techniques, and data scaling methods used in Machine Learning projects. Participants were guided through importing essential Python libraries such as Pandas and working with datasets within the coding environment. Dr. Prakash also explained the importance of scaling data before training Machine Learning models and demonstrated how prediction processes are implemented using practical examples. These hands-on demonstrations allowed participants to directly apply coding concepts and gain confidence in handling real-world Machine Learning and data analysis tasks. The session maintained a highly interactive atmosphere, with participants actively engaging in discussions, asking questions, and experimenting with visualization techniques during the live demonstrations. Dr. Prakash also shared valuable industry insights on the growing demand for Machine Learning, Data Analytics, and visualization skills across modern industries, especially within the financial and technology sectors. The workshop concluded with a thank you speech delivered by the Programme Team Head, who expressed appreciation to the speaker, organizing committee, IEEE WIE representatives, and all participants for contributing to the success of the event. A virtual token of appreciation was presented to the guest speaker, followed by a virtual group photo session celebrating the successful completion of the workshop. Overall, the session successfully combined theoretical understanding with practical implementation, providing participants with valuable exposure to Machine Learning, Data Visualization, and real-world analytical techniques while inspiring them to further explore the fields of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.
