From Fourier to AI: The Evolution of Signal Processing

May 13, 2026 · 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM @ Malabe, CINEC Campus

Description

Purpose of the event: To provide participants with a broad understanding of the evolution of signal processing, from classical analytical foundations to modern intelligent approaches, while highlighting its significance in current research and real-world technological applications. The session was also organized as an incorporated guest talk in parallel with the official installation of the IEEE Signal Processing Society Student Chapter at the IEEE Student Branch of CINEC Campus. Key areas covered: The guest lecture presented a comprehensive overview of signal processing and its development over time, beginning with foundational concepts such as Fourier analysis and progressing toward contemporary artificial intelligence-driven techniques. The speaker discussed the growing role of signal processing in modern engineering research, emphasizing its importance in analyzing, interpreting, and extracting meaningful information from signals across diverse domains. Practical research applications in areas such as communication systems, intelligent sensing, automation, and data-driven technologies were highlighted to demonstrate the continued relevance and expansion of the field. The session provided participants with valuable exposure to both classical theory and emerging research directions, encouraging deeper engagement with signal processing as a key area of study and innovation.
