The IEEE Computer Society Sri Lanka Chapter successfully conducted Session 2 of the Digital Capacity Building Program for Non-IT Professionals in the State Sector on 10 June 2026 at the Minuwangoda Divisional Secretariat, bringing together Grama Niladhari Officers for a day of practical learning on emerging digital technologies and cybersecurity. Designed to enhance digital competencies within the public sector, the program focused on equipping participants with the knowledge and skills required to confidently navigate today's rapidly evolving digital workplace. The session featured two timely and highly relevant topics: Leveraging AI Tools for Efficient Office Administration and Cybersecurity & Information Security Awareness. The Artificial Intelligence session was facilitated by Dr. Thilina Thanthriwatta, Senior Lecturer at the University of Moratuwa, together with Mr. Rukshan J. Senanayaka, Research Scholar at the University of Moratuwa. Through practical demonstrations and real-world examples, participants explored how AI-powered tools can be effectively integrated into everyday administrative tasks to improve productivity, streamline workflows, and support informed decision-making within the public sector. The second session on Cybersecurity & Information Security Awareness was conducted by Ms. Pipuni Wijesiri, Assistant Secretary, Ministry of Defence. The session emphasized the growing importance of cybersecurity in government institutions, highlighting common cyber threats, information security best practices, phishing awareness, secure password management, data protection, and the critical role of Grama Niladhari Officers in safeguarding government and citizen information. The program received enthusiastic participation from the Grama Niladhari Officers, who actively engaged in discussions and interactive activities throughout the day. Their keen interest and participation reflected the increasing importance of digital literacy and cybersecurity awareness in delivering efficient, secure, and citizen-centric public services. The IEEE Computer Society Sri Lanka Chapter extends its sincere appreciation to the distinguished resource persons for sharing their expertise and valuable insights, inspiring participants to embrace digital transformation and strengthen cybersecurity practices in their professional responsibilities.
