Field visit to DIMO Concurrent to Career Gateway 1.0

June 10, 2026 · 4:00 AM - 9:30 AM @ Weliweriya, DIMO Vehicle Assembly Plant

Description

Introduction As part of the Career Gateway 1.0 initiative, IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) organized an educational field visit to DIMO (Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC) on 10 June 2026. The visit aimed to provide participants with practical exposure to modern industrial technologies and manufacturing processes. Activities Conducted 1. Agri-Machinery Technologies Workshop P articipants attended an informative workshop on Agri-Machinery Technologies, where industry experts introduced modern agricultural machinery and technological innovations used in the agricultural sector. The session highlighted the role of advanced machinery in improving productivity and sustainability in agriculture. 2. Low Voltage Switchboard Manufacturing Facility Visit Participants were given the opportunity to observe the Low Voltage Switchboard Manufacturing process at the DIMO facility. The engineering team provided practical demonstrations and detailed explanations of the manufacturing workflow, quality control procedures, safety standards, and the technologies involved in switchboard production. Outcomes The field visit enabled participants to: Gain practical knowledge of industrial manufacturing processes. Understand the applications of modern agricultural technologies. Observe real-world engineering practices and workplace operations. Interact with industry professionals and learn about career opportunities in the engineering sector. Conclusion The field visit to DIMO was a valuable learning experience for all participants. The combination of technical workshops and practical demonstrations enhanced students’ understanding of industrial technologies and engineering applications. IEEE WIE and Career Gateway 1.0 successfully provided an engaging platform for students to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry practices.
