Publishing with Impact: A Practical Guide to Writing Research Papers for Indexed Journals

The Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS) Section E3 (Computer Science), in collaboration with the General Research Committee (GRC) of SLAAS, the IEEE Computer Society Sri Lanka Chapter, and the iTeam of the Department of Computer Science, The Open University of Sri Lanka, successfully conducted an online workshop titled "Publishing with Impact: A Practical Guide to Writing Research Papers for Indexed Journals" on 16 June 2026. The workshop was organized under the leadership of Dr. Suresha Nilmini Perera, Senior Lecturer, Department of Computer Science, The Open University of Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the above partner organizations. The session was moderated by Ms. Menaka Moonamaldeniya, Lecturer, SLIIT Kandy UNI, who guided the proceedings of the workshop. The workshop featured Dr. Jayamali De Silva, Senior Lecturer, Department of Textile and Apparel Engineering, University of Moratuwa, as the resource person. The session attracted more than 100 participants, including undergraduate and postgraduate students, academics, researchers, and professionals from various disciplines. The workshop provided practical guidance on publishing research in indexed journals, covering key areas such as journal indexing systems, identifying suitable journals, manuscript preparation and academic writing, citation and referencing practices, the journal submission and peer-review process, and responding effectively to reviewers’ comments. The interactive and insightful session significantly enhanced participants’ understanding of the academic publishing process and strengthened their confidence in preparing and submitting high-quality research manuscripts to reputable indexed journals. The event contributed to promoting research excellence and encouraging quality scholarly dissemination among emerging and established researchers.
