Voltcast 2.0

July 5, 2026 · 3:30 AM - 10:30 AM @ New Computer Center, Galle, Faculty of Engineering

Description

The IEEE Power & Energy Society Student Branch Chapter of the University of Ruhuna, in collaboration with the Power Circle of the Electrical and Information Engineering Society (EIES) for the term 2025/2026, is planning to organise Voltcast 2.0, a practical power engineering workshop series and design challenge aimed at enhancing the technical knowledge and industrial readiness of undergraduate students. Voltcast 2.0 is designed to provide participants with hands-on exposure to low-voltage electrical installation design, lighting design, electrical layouts, and power system analysis through a structured series of technical workshops and a final engineering design challenge. The program combines theoretical learning with practical software-based applications using industry-relevant tools such as DIALux, Revit, and ETAP, enabling participants to develop practical engineering and problem-solving skills aligned with modern industry requirements. Vision To become a leading student-driven technical platform that empowers future engineers with practical knowledge, innovative thinking, and industry-orientated skills in the power and energy sector while contributing to the advancement of sustainable electrical engineering solutions. Mission To provide practical, industry-orientated learning opportunities that enhance technical knowledge, innovation, and professional development in the power and energy engineering field. Objectives ● To provide practical exposure to low-voltage electrical installation design. ● To bridge theoretical electrical engineering concepts with industrial applications. ● To improve technical knowledge in load calculation, cable selection, and protection system design.
