Minerva was a scientific writing workshop organized by IEEE EMBS USJ on 18th June 2026 at the botany auditorium. This workshop focused on common mistakes in scientific writing, strategies to avoid them, key considerations for effective scientific communication, audience targeting and techniques for conveying messages clearly. The program also included an interactive panel discussion and a group activity that enhanced participant engagement and learning. objectives To promote scientific writing and research communication skills among university students. To provide a platform for students to publish and showcase their scientific ideas and research. To encourage critical thinking, evidence-based writing, and innovation in engineering and biomedical sciences. To foster a culture of research and academic excellence among undergraduate and postgraduate students. To improve students' ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to a broader audience Agenda Phase Activity Description Phase 1 Workshop 1 – Main Campus, University of Sri Jayewardenepura Conduct a scientific article writing workshop introducing the fundamentals of scientific writing, article structure, referencing, and competition guidelines. Present the two designated themes. Article Submission Participants prepare and submit their articles based on one of the two themes within the specified deadline. Evaluation Articles are reviewed by a panel of judges based on originality, scientific quality, relevance, and writing standards. Phase 2 Workshop 2 – Faculty of Technology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura Conduct the second scientific writing workshop for Faculty of Technology students, following the same format and introducing the competition themes. Article Submission Participants submit their articles under one of the two designated themes. Evaluation Articles are assessed using the same judging criteria to ensure fairness and consistency. Phase 3 Magazine Compilation and Publication Selected high-quality articles from both workshops are edited, designed, and compiled into the Minerva Scientific Magazine . The magazine will be published in both digital and/or printed formats to showcase participants' work and promote scientific knowledge sharing. Final Phase Launch and Recognition Ceremony Officially launch the Minerva Scientific Magazine , announce competition winners, recognize outstanding contributors, and present certificates and awards.
