Industry Readiness Workshop Series 2026 – Final Session Successfully Conducted The final session of the Industry Readiness Workshop Series 2026, jointly organized by SLAAS Section E3 (Computer Science), the IEEE Computer Society Sri Lanka Chapter, the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group Sri Lanka, and the iTeam of the Department of Computer Science, The Open University of Sri Lanka, in collaboration with IFS, was successfully conducted online on 24 June 2026 under the leadership and coordination of Dr. Suresha Perera, Senior Lecturer at The Open University of Sri Lanka. The session was moderated by Ms. Menaka Moonamaldeniya, Lecturer at SLIIT Kandy UNI. The concluding session, titled "Transitioning from Student to Junior Software Developer," attracted over 300 undergraduate students and recent graduates from universities and higher educational institutions across Sri Lanka. The session served as the culmination of the four-week Industry Readiness Workshop Series, bringing together key insights from previous sessions while providing participants with practical guidance on successfully transitioning from academia to the software industry. The session featured two distinguished resource persons from IFS: Mr. Heshan Mallawarachchi, Experienced Software Engineer, IFS Ms. Prabashi Buddhima, Senior Software Engineer, IFS Drawing from their professional experiences, the speakers shared valuable insights into the expectations placed on junior software engineers, the technical and professional competencies required for early-career success, and the importance of continuous learning, effective communication, collaboration, and adaptability in modern software development teams. Participants also gained a realistic understanding of the recruitment process, onboarding experiences, workplace culture, and practical advice on preparing for their first role in the software industry. The session concluded with an engaging interactive Q&A session, during which participants actively sought guidance on interview preparation, technical skill development, workplace expectations, career progression, and strategies for successfully navigating the transition from university to professional employment. The practical experiences shared by the speakers enabled participants to better understand the realities of working in the software industry and the steps they can take to become industry-ready graduates. The successful completion of the Industry Readiness Workshop Series 2026 marks another milestone in strengthening university–industry collaboration and reflects the shared commitment of all organizing partners to preparing the next generation of software professionals for successful careers in the technology sector.
