The IEEE Computer Society Sri Lanka Chapter successfully conducted the online webinar "Choosing a Final-Year Research Project" on 8 July 2026, from 7:00 PM onwards, with the participation of 40 university students. The session was conducted by Mr. K. Thiruthanigesan, Senior Lecturer at SLIIT Northern Uni, Jaffna, who shared valuable insights on selecting impactful and feasible final-year research projects. The discussion focused on practical strategies for identifying meaningful research problems by exploring real-world challenges and aligning research with students' interests and emerging technology trends. The speaker also emphasized the importance of formulating a clear, concise, and effective research title, highlighting how a well-crafted title communicates the essence and scope of the research. Participants were introduced to techniques for identifying suitable conferences and journals for publishing their research, along with an overview of the publication process and the factors to consider when selecting publication venues. Overall, the event provided valuable guidance and inspiration for students embarking on their final-year research projects.
