July 11, 2026 · 3:30 AM - 10:30 AM @ Atharagalla, Atharagalla Primary School

Description

Lumora – Phase 1 is a humanitarian initiative spearheaded by the IEEE PES Student Branch Chapter of SLIIT with the objective of improving essential infrastructure and creating a healthier learning environment for students at Atharagalla Primary School . Rooted in the belief that engineering and leadership should extend beyond the classroom to address real-world challenges, the project was designed to provide sustainable solutions to the school's inadequate water supply, sanitation facilities, and limited access to essential educational resources. Recognizing the need for reliable access to clean water and improved hygiene facilities, the initiative focused on implementing practical and long-term improvements that would directly benefit both students and teachers. The project included the installation of a water storage tank , a water distribution and tap line system , the renovation of the boys' washroom water supply , the installation of new urinals and plumbing connections , and the donation of educational supplies to support students in their academic journey. These improvements were aimed at creating a safer, healthier, and more supportive school environment while enhancing students' overall well-being. Beyond its humanitarian impact, Lumora – Phase 1 served as a platform for IEEE student volunteers to transform compassion into meaningful action while embodying the core values of IEEE and the Power & Energy Society leadership, service, innovation, and social responsibility. By bringing together students, faculty members, sponsors, donors, and the local community, the initiative demonstrated how collaborative, student-led engineering projects can create sustainable solutions and leave a lasting positive impact on rural education and community development.
