Open Hearts 2026

Description

On 24th June, 21 members of the IEEE WIE Student Branch Affinity Group of the University of Peradeniya organized "Open Hearts," a visit to the New Elpitiya Elders' Home in Gelioya. The team spent the evening with 37 residents of the home, sharing tea, conversations, music, singing, and dancing together. As a small gesture of care, the group also donated 12 bedsheets to support the home's daily needs. The visit gave the elders a chance to enjoy company and share their stories, while the students had the opportunity to listen and connect with them on a personal level. It was a simple act of kindness that brought warmth and joy to everyone involved, and it reminded the team how much a little time and attention can mean to someone. Open Hearts 2026 reflects the values the IEEE WIE Affinity Group hopes to promote, compassion, community, and meaningful connection, and the team looks forward to organizing more such initiatives in the future.
