Internship Talent Identification Program | Step Into Industry 4.0

Internship Talent Identification Program , organized by the IEEE Student Branch of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University under the Step Into Industry 4.0 initiative, was a career development session conducted to introduce undergraduates to an early internship recruitment program. The session aimed to help students understand the internship selection process and secure internship opportunities ahead of their designated internship semester. The program was conducted in collaboration with StudPro – IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka and VS Information Systems (Pvt) Ltd. (VSIS) as the industry partner. It was designed for students from Computer Science, Software Development, Information Technology, Electronics, and other IT-related disciplines. The session was conducted by Mr. Kithsiri Gunasekara , Director of the VS Group of Companies , who provided an overview of the Internship Talent Identification Program, the project-based assessment process, and the selection criteria used to identify potential internship candidates. As a key initiative under Step Into Industry 4.0 , this program aligned with the initiative's mission of bridging the gap between academia and industry by equipping undergraduates with the knowledge, exposure, and opportunities required to become industry-ready before commencing their internships. By connecting students directly with industry professionals and recruitment pathways, the session reinforced the IEEE Student Branch's commitment to supporting a smoother transition from academic learning to professional practice. The program provided participants with valuable insights into industry expectations and internship recruitment practices while enhancing their career readiness and strengthening the connection between academia and industry. Through the project-based assessment, several students successfully secured internship opportunities by showcasing their technical competencies, problem-solving abilities, and potential to excel in a professional environment.
