Description

SparkED , An අර්ථ Initiative, extended the Chapter's community outreach efforts into the classroom, with a focus on Science and Electronics for students preparing for the General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) examination — a national secondary school qualifying exam in Sri Lanka, typically taken by students in Grades 10 and 11. Organized jointly by the Department of Computer Engineering (Faculty of Computing, KDU) and the IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter of KDU, the initiative was held on 17th July 2026 at Meegoda Gamini Jayasuriya Maha Vidyalaya in Meegoda, Colombo District. The program combined a subject-focused teaching session with hands-on practice, aiming to spark curiosity and drive innovation beyond the traditional classroom. The session centered on Science and Electronics topics aligned with the students' national curriculum, featuring a dedicated teaching component followed by a prepared assessment to reinforce conceptual understanding through active learning. To further support the students' academic journey, branded SparkED exercise books were distributed to all participants. Through this structured, curriculum-aligned approach, SparkED improved access to quality STEM education for the participating students while reinforcing the Chapter's continued commitment to community engagement and driving innovation beyond the traditional classroom setting.
