NetX IoT Challenge Round 2 – Progress Review Round

July 1, 2026 at 6:30 PM - July 14, 2026 at 6:30 PM @ Online event

Description

The second round of the competition focused on evaluating the development progress of the shortlisted teams. This stage aimed to assess the teams’ ability to transform their initial concepts into practical IoT solutions by reviewing their project planning, system architecture, and implementation progress. Category Details Duration 2nd – 15th July Participating Teams 44 teams Submission Requirement Structured progress review proposal documenting project development status Submission Method Online submission Evaluation Panel Dr. Pasan Maduranga Evaluation Focus Project timeline, proposed solution, system architecture, and hardware/software implementation progress Selection Outcome 22 teams advanced to the Semi-Final Round The proposal template and evaluation criteria were provided to all participating teams beforehand to maintain transparency and ensure that teams were evaluated based on clearly defined expectations. Criterion Description Evaluation Scale C1 — Problem Statement (/10) Evaluated the team's understanding and definition of the identified problem. The assessment considered the clarity of the problem description, its relevance to the target users, and how effectively the problem justified the need for the proposed IoT-based solution. 9–10: Problem is clearly defined, well-scoped, and strongly establishes the need for the proposed solution. 6–8: Problem is understandable but lacks depth, specificity, or clear contextual justification. 0–5: Problem statement is unclear, poorly defined, or lacks relevance to the proposed solution. C2 — Solution Proposed (/10) Assessed the effectiveness and suitability of the proposed solution in addressing the identified problem. This criterion considered the completeness of the solution concept, its practicality, and alignment with IoT technologies. 9–10: Solution is well-defined, practical, and effectively addresses the identified problem. 6–8: Solution demonstrates potential but requires further refinement or improvements. 0–5: Proposed solution lacks clarity, feasibility, or alignment with the identified problem. C3 — Solution Architecture Breakdown (/20) Evaluated the technical design and architecture of the proposed system, including identification of hardware components, software modules, communication methods, data flow, and interaction between system elements. 17–20: Complete and clearly explained architecture with all major components, connections, and data flow identified. 12–16: Architecture is presented but contains missing details or incomplete system interactions. 0–11: Lack of a clear architecture or insufficient explanation of system design. C4 — Project Timeline (/20) Assessed the team's project planning approach, including task scheduling, milestones, development phases, and ability to manage the project within the given timeframe. 17–20: Well-structured timeline with realistic milestones and clear project progression. 12–16: Timeline is available but lacks detailed planning or realistic scheduling. 0–11: Poorly defined timeline with unclear milestones or project management approach. C5 — Hardware Implementation Progress (/20) Evaluated the progress achieved in hardware development, including component selection, circuit implementation, prototype development, and integration of hardware modules required for the IoT system. 17–20: Significant hardware implementation progress with components integrated and functional testing demonstrated. 12–16: Partial hardware implementation completed with some components integrated or tested. 0–11: Limited or no progress demonstrated in hardware development. C6 — Firmware/Software Implementation Progress (/20) Assessed the development progress of firmware and software components, including programming, system logic implementation, data processing, communication protocols, and application development. 17–20: Firmware/software implementation is well developed with major functionalities demonstrated. 12–16: Partial implementation completed with some functionalities developed. 0–11: Minimal software/firmware progress or lack of implementation evidence. Following the progress review evaluation, the top-performing teams were selected based on their demonstrated technical progress, implementation readiness, and project management capabilities. Out of the 44 participating teams, 22 teams successfully advanced to the Semi-Final Round , progressing further towards the completion and demonstration of their IoT-based solutions.
