Build with AI: Buildathon and Workshop 2026

Description

The Build with AI: Buildathon and Workshop is organized by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) On-Campus Student Chapter, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU), in collaboration with Google Developer Groups (GDG) Sri Lanka, GDG Cloud Sri Lanka, and Women Techmakers Sri Lanka. As part of this collaboration, IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter of KDU and the British Computer Society (BCS) Student Branch Chapter of KDU joined as Community Partners. The event is a student-focused AI initiative designed to introduce participants to Google's latest AI technologies through hands-on sessions, guided practical activities, and real-world use cases. Participants explored Google-powered AI tools, took part in interactive workshop sessions, and engaged in a community learning experience aimed at building practical AI skills. The workshop featured two speakers: Suresh Michael Peiris, Co-Founder of Articom and Community Lead at GDG Sri Lanka, and Thulana Vinnath, Software Engineer at Finetech Consultancy, a Google Cloud Premier Partner. As a benefit of Google's contribution to the event, all participants received an official Certificate from Google Developer Groups Sri Lanka upon completion. Registrations for the event filled within four hours of opening and were fully subscribed ahead of the session date, reflecting strong interest from the student community.
