As part of Career Gateway 1.0, IEEE Student Branch of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura successfully organized an Industry Visit to WSO2, providing participants with an invaluable opportunity to experience one of Sri Lanka’s leading technology companies and gain first-hand exposure to the modern software industry. The visit commenced with a warm welcome from the WSO2 team, followed by an engaging session introducing the company, its vision, global impact, and unique workplace culture. Participants gained insights into WSO2’s collaborative work environment, innovation-driven mindset, employee growth opportunities, and the values that have established the company as a globally recognized technology organization. This session enabled students to better understand the expectations and professional culture of a leading software company. To encourage interaction and networking, the WSO2 team conducted an interactive ice-breaking session. Through engaging activities and discussions, students had the opportunity to connect with WSO2 professionals and fellow participants in a relaxed environment. This segment fostered communication, teamwork, and confidence while creating an enjoyable and memorable experience for everyone involved. The highlight of the visit was a comprehensive technical session focused on DevOps. The session introduced participants to the fundamental principles and practices of DevOps, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between development and operations teams to enable faster, more reliable software delivery. Students were exposed to concepts such as Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Deployment (CD), automation, infrastructure as code, monitoring, and the role of DevOps in modern software engineering. Real-world examples and industry best practices were shared, allowing participants to understand how DevOps methodologies are applied in large-scale enterprise environments. Throughout the visit, students actively engaged with the speakers by asking insightful questions regarding career pathways, industry expectations, emerging technologies, and professional development. The interactive discussions provided valuable guidance for students aspiring to pursue careers in software engineering, cloud technologies, and DevOps. The industry visit successfully fulfilled the objectives of Career Gateway 1.0 by bridging the gap between academia and industry, exposing students to real-world technological practices, and inspiring them to continuously develop both their technical competencies and professional skills.
