Description

VECTRA is an ongoing national-level cybersecurity initiative organized by the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group of the Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT). Designed to empower aspiring cybersecurity professionals, the project offers an immersive journey of learning, innovation, and competition, bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world cybersecurity challenges. More than a standalone competition, VECTRA is a carefully curated project that unfolds through multiple phases, including an awareness session, technical workshops, a Capture the Flag (CTF) Selection Round , and an intensive 8 hour King of the Hill (KOTH) Competition . Each stage is designed to progressively strengthen participants' technical expertise, critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities while exposing them to realistic cybersecurity scenarios. Conducted in collaboration with Legion Offensive Security , VECTRA provides participants with opportunities to learn directly from industry professionals, gain practical experience, and engage with a growing community of cybersecurity enthusiasts. Bringing together over 100 undergraduate students from universities across Sri Lanka, the initiative serves as a platform for collaboration, networking, and skill development in an ever-evolving digital landscape. As an ongoing project, VECTRA continues to progress through its planned phases, creating meaningful learning experiences while fostering innovation, resilience, and a passion for cybersecurity. Through this initiative, IEEE WIE IIT aims to inspire and equip the next generation of cybersecurity professionals with the practical skills and confidence needed to address the security challenges of tomorrow.
