Description
As part of establishing the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) Student Branch Chapter , the newest addition to the IEEE Student Branch at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, an online Executive Committee Applicant Interview Session was conducted. The objective of the interviews was to identify motivated student leaders who possess the skills, commitment, and vision required to lead the newly formed chapter during its inaugural term. To ensure an efficient and organized selection process, the IEEE Student Branch Executive Committee was divided into two interview panels . Applicants reserved interview time slots in advance and attended their interviews online according to their scheduled appointments. This structured approach minimized waiting time while enabling each candidate to receive a fair and comprehensive evaluation. During the interviews, applicants were assessed on their leadership potential, communication skills, teamwork, initiative, previous volunteering experience, and understanding of IEEE's mission and values. The interview panels also explored candidates' aspirations for the GRSS Student Branch Chapter and their ideas for organizing impactful technical, professional, and community-oriented activities that align with the Society's field of interest. Following each interview, panel members discussed candidate performances and documented observations to support the Executive Committee selection process. The interview process emphasized transparency, fairness, and equal opportunity while ensuring that leadership positions would be entrusted to individuals capable of successfully launching and sustaining the chapter. The successful completion of the interviews marked a significant milestone in the formation of the IEEE GRSS Student Branch Chapter, laying the foundation for a strong executive team that will contribute to advancing knowledge and engagement in geoscience and remote sensing among students.
