From Undergraduate to Professional: The Personality Advantage in Technology

The IEEE Computer Society Sri Lanka Chapter conducted an online session titled “From Undergraduate to Professional: The Personality Advantage in Technology” on 14th September 2026 at 6.00 PM. It was conducted by Ms. Pabasara Rathnayake, Lecturer, Faculty of Information Technology, University of Moratuwa. The session focused on the importance of developing personal and interpersonal qualities alongside technical expertise as students prepare to enter the technology industry. Key areas including personality development, leadership, communication, confidence, teamwork, and professional presence were discussed, highlighting how these qualities can contribute to long-term professional growth and leadership. The session was attended by 20 participants, most of whom were undergraduate students. Rather than being a conventional lecture, the session incorporated several activities, encouraging participants to reflect on their own strengths, identify areas for improvement, and consider how their personality and professional behaviours can influence their future careers.
