Description
The initial round of the OctWave 3.0 Kaggle Challenge was conducted virtually from 9th August 2026 at 12:00 AM to 11th August 2026 at 11:59 PM, with the participation of 208 teams. The competition engaged aspiring data science and machine learning enthusiasts in solving a real-world machine learning classification problem focused on credit card fraud detection ( is_fraud ). The competition commenced with the release of the official dataset, Kaggle competition link, participation guidelines, and submission requirements. Participants competed either individually or in teams of up to four members while following the official team-naming and integrity guidelines. Throughout the challenge, teams developed and optimized machine learning models to accurately identify fraudulent transactions. Submissions were evaluated using the F1-score, which was selected to account for the imbalanced nature of the dataset. Each team was permitted up to 10 submissions per day and could select up to two final submissions for Private Leaderboard evaluation. The use of private datasets and unauthorized code sharing was prohibited. Following the conclusion of the Kaggle competition, participants were required to verify their work. A Google Form was opened at 9:00 AM on 12th August 2026, through which each team submitted a single ZIP file containing its Jupyter Notebook and a two-page report by the 9:00 PM deadline. After reviewing the submitted code, reports, and leaderboard performance, the top 70 teams from the 208 participating teams were selected to advance to the second round of the OctWave 3.0 Kaggle Challenge. The round provided participants with practical experience in data preprocessing, machine learning model development, evaluation, and optimization while applying their skills to a real-world classification problem.

Following evaluation Submitted notebooks, reports, and leaderboard results were reviewed, and the top 70 teams were selected to advance to Round 2.
