From Research to Reality: AR/VR Entrepreneurship Opportunities for Sri Lankan Entrepreneurs

The IEEE Entrepreneurship Sri Lanka Local Group successfully conducted its inaugural technical activity, “From Research to Reality!”, on 22 September 2026. This online session brought together around 25 participants interested in exploring entrepreneurship and innovation opportunities in the rapidly evolving fields of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). The session featured Dr. Yasas Sri Wickramasinghe, Postdoctoral Researcher, University of Canterbury. Dr. Yasas shared insights into the AR/VR startup landscape and discussed how research and emerging technologies can be transformed into real-world entrepreneurial opportunities. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A session, providing participants with an opportunity to interact with Dr. Yasas, clarify their questions, and further discuss opportunities related to AR/VR research and entrepreneurship. The session was particularly significant as it marked the first technical activity of the IEEE Entrepreneurship Sri Lanka Local Group, established in 2026. The activity represents an initial step towards creating a platform for IEEE members, researchers, students, and technology enthusiasts to explore entrepreneurship, innovation, and the commercialization of emerging technologies.
