AI Challenge Sri Lanka 2026: Cursor 101 - Build Your Idea Workshop 01
July 30, 2026 · 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM @ Online event
Description
Cursor 101: Build Your Idea was an online, hands-on workshop held as part of the AI Challenge Sri Lanka 2026, organized by AI Driven Sri Lanka under IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka. It introduced participants to Cursor, an AI-powered code editor, and showed how AI-assisted development can turn a raw idea into a working prototype far faster than traditional approaches. Aimed at university students, young professionals, and AI Challenge participants preparing for the Phase 1 AI Buildathon, the session began with the fundamentals such as what AI-assisted coding is, how Cursor differs from a conventional editor, and how to set up a project. It then moved into practical techniques, including writing effective prompts, generating and refactoring code with AI, debugging with AI assistance, and structuring a project so the AI has the right context. Through live examples, the speaker demonstrated the full journey from a rough concept to a functioning application. The workshop also emphasized responsible use of AI tools: reviewing generated code, understanding what is being built rather than copying blindly, and treating AI as a collaborator, not a replacement for engineering judgment. Participants left with a clear workflow they could apply immediately to their Buildathon projects and future ideas.
