Description

The second annual general meeting of the Microwave Theory and Techniques Society Sri Lanka Chapter was held on 29th of January, 2011, at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya. The main objective of the meeting was to select the office bearers for the year 2011. It was brought to the notice that the office bearers for 2010 were selected in September of that year and as a result they were in office for only 3 months. Therefore, with the unanimous agreement of the gathering, it was decided to continue with the same selection for the year 2011. The office bearers for the year 2011 are: 1. Chair: Dr. Vijitha. R. Herath, Dept. of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya. 2. Vice Chair: Mrs. Indrani M. Hissalle, Sri Lanka Telecom. 3. Secretary: Dr. Aruna Gunawardena, Dept. of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya. 4. Treasurer: Dr. Disala N. Uduwawala. Dept. of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya. 5. Editor: Mr. M. P. Gunasinghe Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, Sri Lanka. The activities planned for the year 2011 were briefed by the newly elected chair. Following activities were identified as crucial steps to increase the MTT-S membership. 1. Hosting a web page for the MTT-S Sri Lanka Chapter. 2. Contacting the entire IEEE membership of the Sri Lanka Section by email explaining the benefits of being a member of MTT-S. 3. Organizing industry visits to relevant organizations. The gathering was also informed of the plans to invite two IEEE distinguished lecturers in the area of microwave engineering coinciding with the ICIIS 2011 conference to be held in August 2011 in Sri Lanka.
