GIS and Remote Sensing Application in Disaster Management

The Faculty of Arts, University of Jaffna, has organized a technical workshop titled “ GIS and Remote Sensing Application in Disaster Management ” as part of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) Young Professionals (YP) Ambassador Program 2026. The workshop will be led by Mr. S. Sivanantharajah, SSSO, Former Additional Surveyor General . This interactive technical workshop and live demonstration will introduce participants to the applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing in disaster management. The program will focus on the use of geospatial technologies for disaster assessment, mapping, and decision-making. Through practical demonstrations and technical discussions, participants will gain an understanding of how geospatial data and remote sensing techniques can support disaster preparedness, response, and risk management.
