Gammaddata IEEE API 5.0 – Session 03: Robotics & 3D Design
September 16, 2026 · 1:30 PM - 4:30 PM @ Online event
Description
The third workshop of the Gammaddata IEEE API 5.0 program, titled “Session 03: Robotics & 3D Design,” was conducted virtually via Zoom on 16th September 2026 from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with the participation of 100 attendees. The session was organized collaboratively by the IEEE PES, IEEE RAS, and IEEE IAS Student Branch Chapters of the University of Moratuwa and was conducted by Akash Gandhawa and Adeesha Chakshu. The workshop was conducted under the theme “Design > Build > Create” and introduced students to the fundamentals of robotics, 3D design, and digital fabrication. The speakers first explained introductory concepts in robotics before introducing participants to SolidWorks 3D Design and demonstrating how ideas can be transformed into digital 3D models. Participants were then introduced to the process of 3D printing, including how digital designs can be converted into physical components. The session also demonstrated how 3D-printed components can be integrated into robotic systems, giving students an understanding of the connection between digital design, manufacturing, and robotics. The workshop concluded with a Q&A session, followed by a token of appreciation to the speakers and a vote of thanks. The session provided participants with practical exposure to robotics, computer-aided design, and 3D printing.
