Description
The OctWave 3.0 Grand Finale, themed “Industrial AI & Intelligence,” was held on 20th September 2026 at the TMLE Auditorium, University of Moratuwa. The top 10 teams selected from Round 2 competed in the final stage of the competition, where participants were challenged to apply Artificial Intelligence to real-world industrial problems. Prior to the live finale, each team submitted its Jupyter Notebook and Technical Report for evaluation. This written component accounted for 55 marks out of the total 100 marks. The judging panel evaluated the teams based on their understanding of the selected problem, data selection and preparation, model development, technical implementation, and quality of documentation. The live event commenced at 9:00 AM. Each of the 10 finalist teams was given 10 minutes to present its project to a panel of expert judges. Teams explained the industrial problem they selected, the AI-based solution they developed, the methodology used, and the practical value of their proposed solution. Each presentation was followed by a 5-minute Q&A session, during which judges questioned the teams on their technical decisions, model design, implementation, and practical applicability. The presentation and Q&A component accounted for the remaining 45 marks. The judges used live scorecards to combine the marks obtained from the written submissions and the live presentations. Based on the final evaluation, the top-performing teams were selected as the winners of OctWave 3.0. The Grand Finale concluded with an awarding ceremony recognizing the achievements of the finalist teams. Team Zeebilts from the National Institute of Business Management secured 1st place and received a cash prize of LKR 30,000. Team Kraken from the University of Moratuwa secured 2nd place with a prize of LKR 15,000, while Team Yali from the University of Peradeniya secured 3rd place and received LKR 10,000.
