Elevate & Inspire: Strengthening Senior Membership in IEEE Sri Lanka Section

The IEEE Senior Member Elevation Workshop, held on 9 September 2026 at Waters Edge, Battaramulla, provided practical guidance to IEEE members interested in progressing to the IEEE Senior Member Grade. Organized through an Expression of Interest process, the workshop brought together participants representing various universities, higher education institutions, and professional organizations. Dr. Thilina Thanthriwatta, Membership Development Chair of the IEEE Sri Lanka Section conducted the introductory session on Senior Member eligibility, benefits, and the application process, while Prof. Supunmali Ahangama provided guidance on demonstrating significant professional performance and preparing appropriate supporting documentation. Dr. Suresha Perera supported the workshop by providing individual guidance and responding to participants’ questions throughout the program. Prof. Tharaka Samarasinghe, Chair of the IEEE Sri Lanka Section, also addressed the participants and emphasized the importance of strengthening the Senior Member community in Sri Lanka. The interactive nature of the workshop helped participants identify relevant supporting documents, effectively present their professional achievements, and prepare stronger applications. The workshop received highly positive feedback, particularly for its practical guidance. This event was financially supported by the 2026 IEEE Region 10 Membership Development Committee (MDC) Membership Development Support Fund and the IEEE Sri Lanka Section.
