GAMMADDATA IEEE API 5.0 - Physical Hands-On Workshops

September 18, 2026 at 3:00 AM - September 28, 2026 at 8:00 AM @ Colombo, Kegalle, Kalutara, Galle and Matara Districts

Description

The GAMMADDATA IEEE API 5.0 Physical Hands-On Workshops were conducted as a series of school outreach sessions from 18 September to 28 September 2026 at six schools across Sri Lanka. The program was organized collaboratively by the IEEE Power & Energy Society, IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, and IEEE Industry Applications Society Student Branch Chapters of the University of Moratuwa. The workshops were designed to provide school students with practical exposure to programming, electronics, microcontrollers, and embedded systems. Through guided hands-on activities, students were introduced to Arduino and ESP32 fundamentals, Arduino IDE programming, basic electronic circuits, blinking light circuits, traffic light systems, servo motor control, and Bluetooth-based circuits. The six physical sessions were conducted as follows: 1. Lalith Athulathmudali College, Mount Lavinia, Colombo 18 September 2026, 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM 35 students and 2 teachers participated. The session covered ESP32 basics, Arduino IDE coding, blinking light circuits, servo motor circuits, and Bluetooth circuits. 2. Boyagama Sri Parakramabahu Maha Vidyalaya, Galigamuwa, Kegalle 18 September 2026, 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM Approximately 30 students and 1 teacher participated. The session introduced Arduino fundamentals and practical activities progressing up to the development of a traffic light system. 3. Gnanodaya Maha Vidyalaya, Kalutara 19 September 2026, 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM 25 students and 1 teacher participated in a practical Arduino workshop. 4. Mathugama Ananda Shasthralaya, Mathugama, Kalutara 19 September 2026, 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM 3 students and 1 teacher participated. The session covered ESP32 basics, Arduino IDE coding, blinking light circuits, servo motor circuits, and Bluetooth circuits. 5. Kathaluwa Central College, Galle 26 September 2026, 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM 50 students and 2 teachers participated in a hands-on Arduino workshop. 6. Vijitha Central College, Dickwella, Matara 28 September 2026, 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM Approximately 50 students and 3 teachers participated in a practical ESP32 workshop. Across the six sessions, approximately 193 school students and 10 teachers participated. IEEE student volunteers supported the workshops by guiding students through practical activities, circuit construction, programming, and troubleshooting. The program enabled students to move beyond theoretical learning and gain practical experience in programming and electronics. Through hands-on experimentation, participants strengthened their technical knowledge, logical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and interest in STEM-related fields.
