Description
AeroNex 1.0 – RC Model Aircraft Building & Flying Workshop was a hands-on educational program organized by the IEEE Student Branch of the Open University of Sri Lanka in collaboration with Rylee’s Aero Models on 6 October 2026 at the Block 7 Auditorium, The Open University of Sri Lanka, Nawala, Nugegoda. The workshop aimed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of aviation, aeromodelling, radio-controlled (RC) aircraft construction, aircraft design, electronics, and flight. Through technical presentations, demonstrations, practical learning activities, and supervised flying experiences, participants had the opportunity to explore the engineering principles behind RC model aircraft and gain practical insights into their construction, operation, and control. The program also highlighted the importance of safety in aircraft construction and operation while introducing participants to potential career pathways in aviation and aerospace, including aerospace engineering, aircraft design, avionics, aircraft maintenance, air traffic control, and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and drone technology. By combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience, AeroNex 1.0 sought to encourage creativity, engineering thinking, problem-solving, and interest in aviation-related technologies among university students, aspiring engineers, and aviation enthusiasts. The workshop supported the IEEE Student Branch’s commitment to promoting technical education, innovation, and hands-on engineering experiences while inspiring participants to explore future opportunities in aviation and aerospace.
