Beyond the Demo: Engineering Real-World Solutions

Description

As part of the global IEEE Day 2026 celebrations ( #ieeeday ), the University of Peradeniya IEEE Student Branch organized a live virtual tech talk titled "Beyond the Demo: Engineering Real-World Solutions." Delivered by Mr. Dhammika Marasinghe (Senior Technical Lead at 99x Technology AS and Serial Volunteer across IEEE, TRACE, and SLASSCOM), the session focused on bridging the gap between academic prototype development and production-ready engineering . Key topics covered during the session included: Transitioning from proof-of-concept demos to scalable, robust system architectures. Industry engineering best practices, maintainability, and enterprise deployment standards. Navigating technical debt, testing, and operational constraints in production environments. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A discussion, allowing undergraduates to gain direct industry perspective on engineering real-world software and technological solutions.
