Description

The IEEE Sri Lanka Section Final Year Project Arena 2026 was held on 3 October 2026 at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Organized by the IEEE Sri Lanka Section in collaboration with the University of Peradeniya, the event provided a national-level platform for undergraduate students to showcase their final-year engineering and technology projects, demonstrate their technical competencies, exchange innovative ideas, and engage with the wider engineering community. The primary objective of the IEEE FYP Arena 2026 was to recognize and encourage undergraduate innovation, research excellence, and practical problem-solving in engineering and technology. The event aimed to promote the application of engineering knowledge to real-world challenges, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and strengthen connections among universities, industry professionals, academics, and the IEEE community. The event received 86 project applications from 14 universities across Sri Lanka , reflecting the strong interest of undergraduates in presenting their research and innovations on a national platform. The submitted projects covered six technical tracks: Computer Science and Software Engineering Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Communications, Signal Processing and Microwave Systems Electronics, Embedded Systems and Robotics Power, Energy and Industrial Applications Biomedical Engineering and Emerging Technologies Projects were evaluated through a structured assessment process involving online evaluation and shortlisting, followed by a final in-person evaluation of selected projects. The assessment emphasized the technical merit, innovation, methodology, validation, and practical significance of the projects. The shortlisted finalists presented their work through an exhibition, enabling judges and participants to examine the proposed solutions, discuss technical aspects, and appreciate the potential applications and impact of the innovations. Outstanding projects were recognized through awards in the respective technical tracks. The programme included a project exhibition and an awards ceremony, bringing together undergraduate project teams, academic staff, judges, industry representatives, and IEEE volunteers. The event encouraged students to communicate their technical work effectively, receive professional feedback, and gain valuable exposure to the expectations of the engineering and technology sectors. The successful organization of the IEEE FYP Arena 2026 was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the IEEE Sri Lanka Section, its organizational and technical volunteers, participating universities, and supporting IEEE organizational units. The University of Peradeniya hosted the event, while technical support was contributed by IEEE organizational units across the Sri Lanka Section, with the exception of the IEEE Sri Lanka Section itself and the Central Region Subsection in their distinct organizing roles. The event was supported by Synopsys as the Main Sponsor and Ceylex Engineering (Pvt) Ltd as the Gold Sponsor , whose sponsorship contributed to recognizing and rewarding outstanding student projects. The IEEE Sri Lanka Section Final Year Project Arena 2026 demonstrated IEEE's commitment to advancing technology for humanity by nurturing young engineering talent, encouraging innovation and research, and creating opportunities for meaningful engagement between academia and industry. The event also strengthened collaboration among Sri Lankan universities and provided a valuable platform for students to develop their professional skills, showcase their achievements, and contribute to the advancement of engineering and technology in Sri Lanka.
