July 11, 2026 · 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM @ Galle, Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna, Wakwella Road, Hapugala

Description

The IEEE Communications Society Student Branch Chapter of the University of Ruhuna organized the “Trustworthy AI for 6G” workshop on 11th July 2026 at the IS Seminar Room, Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna. The 1.5-hour workshop featured Dr. Shen Wang, Assistant Professor (Tenured) at University College Dublin and Academic Co-Director of NETSLAB, as the keynote speaker, with insights into research initiatives and EU-funded projects, including ENSURE-6G and COHERENT. Core Themes Covered • AI-Native & Transparent 6G: Moving beyond standard machine learning integration to build self-configuring, self-optimizing, and self-healing wireless architectures. • Explainable AI (XAI): Utilizing frameworks (such as fastSHAP-cXai and Open-RAN/O-RAN integrations) to ensure AI decisions in ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (xURLLC) are interpretable and auditable. • Security & Privacy: Addressing emerging threat models in Beyond-5G and 6G systems, including AI-driven threat detection, privacy-preserving federated learning, federated unlearning, and data availability constraints. • Lifecycle Management: Introducing holistic approaches (like the REASON framework) combining AI orchestration, cognition for performance evaluation, and continuous monitoring. The workshop provided 50+ students from the Faculty of Engineering with valuable exposure to emerging research, intelligent communication technologies, and the challenges of developing trustworthy AI-driven 6G networks.
