Finance 101, organized as part of UpSkill 2026 by IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka in collaboration with IEEE StudPro and IEEE LETs talk, is a financial literacy programme designed to equip undergraduates and young professionals with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to navigate real-world financial responsibilities. The program aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and everyday financial decision-making by introducing participants to fundamental concepts in personal financial management, employment-related finances, investing, and responsible borrowing. Through expert-led sessions, participants gained a comprehensive understanding of managing personal income, developing effective saving habits, understanding financial obligations, and making informed financial decisions as they transition into professional life. The program brings together experienced professionals from the financial and corporate sectors to share practical knowledge and industry insights. Sessions cover essential aspects of budgeting, financial planning, employment-related benefits and personal tax responsibilities. Participants also explore employment contracts, workplace rights and responsibilities, and salary structures. Additionally, the program addresses responsible credit management, including credit cards, loans, interest rates, and debt traps, alongside investment fundamentals such as stocks, unit trusts, risk and return, and diversification. Through interactive discussions participants develop a stronger understanding of financial opportunities and risks, equipping them with the knowledge to make informed decisions, manage their finances responsibly, and work towards financial independence.
