Description
The IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) Student Branch Chapter of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University successfully organized සිප්සතර (Sipsathara’26) , an educational CSR initiative held on 26th October 2026 at WP/KE Dharmaraja Vidyalaya, Kadawatha , with the aim of enhancing students' academic knowledge, promoting practical learning, and encouraging the effective use of technology in education. The program featured a series of educational sessions designed to benefit students across different grade levels. An O/L seminar was conducted for senior students, focusing on electrical and electronic concepts covered in the Science syllabus. The sessions aimed to strengthen their theoretical understanding while providing additional academic support for their upcoming examinations. Complementing the seminar, a dedicated practical session was organized to demonstrate the electronic experiments and practical components included in the school Science curriculum. Through hands-on demonstrations and practical explanations, students were given the opportunity to connect theoretical concepts with real-world applications, making the learning experience more engaging and effective. As part of the initiative to promote digital literacy, an IT workshop was conducted for students from Grades 6 to 9, organized in separate groups to ensure effective participation and individual engagement. A particularly meaningful aspect of this session was that it was conducted in the very same IT laboratory renovated and donated by the IEEE PES KDU Student Branch Chapter during Sipsathara’25 . Building upon the foundation established through the previous year's initiative, the workshop provided students with opportunities to further develop their computer literacy and digital skills, reinforcing the long-term impact of the chapter's commitment to supporting the school's digital education facilities. In addition to the educational activities, the project extended its support to the school through several donations, including contributions towards the school laboratory and school library , with the intention of further strengthening the school's learning resources and facilities. Furthermore, gifts were distributed among the children, adding a special touch to the initiative and bringing smiles to the students. In addition to the student-focused activities, an AI Awareness Session was organized specifically for the teachers of the school. The session was conducted by Mr. S.A.N. Kulasinghe, Lecturer, Department of Electrical, Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University . It focused on introducing the potential of Artificial Intelligence in the education sector and creating awareness of how AI tools can be used productively to support teaching, learning, and academic activities. Through Sipsathara’26 , the IEEE PES KDU Student Branch Chapter continued its commitment to empowering school communities through knowledge sharing, practical education, and technological awareness. By combining academic support, hands-on STEM learning, digital skills development, AI awareness, and meaningful contributions to school resources, the initiative created valuable learning opportunities for both students and teachers while further strengthening the lasting relationship established with Dharmaraja Vidyalaya through the previous year's project.
