The ExCom meeting was started at 17.30hrs as scheduled at University of Peradeniya premises. As the first task of the meeting drafted office bearers list confirmed. Janaka Wickramaratne There after committee discussed about the IEEE Central Region Sub Section activities for this year. Chairman, Dr. Ranaweera updated the situation about the Dr.Maheshi Dissanayake’s WIE member representation in R10 SWG congress in Auckland, New Zealand, July 2011. After discussing the matter further, committee decided to sponsor her for this event. IEEE Sri Lanka Section will provide LKR 50,000/= and Central Region Sub Section will contribute with LKR 10,000/= as sponsorship. After attending the congress Dr. Maheshi will lead to form IEEE woman Engineering body in Sri Lanka chapter. After that committee briefed about the activities already successfully completed. Here is the list of those activities. 1. “Condition Monitoring of High Voltage Equipment”, Mr. G.A. Jayantha, Deputy General Manager - Generation Projects, Ceylon Electricity Board on Monday 2nd of May 2011, from 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm, at New Seminar Room of DEEE. 2. “First 4G/LTE launch experience in United States of America” Mr. Raguparan Masilamany, Director PLM – Bridge Water System, USA, 25th (Monday) of April 2011, from 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm, at New Seminar Room of DEEE. 3. “Global Broad Band Network Requirements and Application of LTE Technology”, Mr. V.K. Balasundaram (C.Eng, MIEE, MBA, PMP), Consultant– DETECON Consulting Asia Pacific Ltd, Singapore, 31st (Thursday) of March 2011, from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm at New Seminar Room of DEEE 4. “Nanotechnology - Photonic Crystals in Advanced Technological Applications” Mr. Vajira Amaratunga, 25th of April, 2011 Monday from 4:15 p.m. onwards at the seminar room (top floor of the new building), Department Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya As upcoming activities following were finalized, 1. "Future Trends in Wireless Communications - Beyond 4G", Prof. Matti Latva-aho, Head, Telecommunication Laboratory, Former Director, Centre for Wireless Communications (CWC) University of Oulu, Finland. Friday June 03, 2011 from 11am, Engineering Faculty Seminar room, University of Peradeniya. 2. "MIMO Relays and Network Coding", Prof. Nandana Rajatheva, Centre for Wireless Communications (CWC), University of Oulu, Finland, Friday June 03rd 2011, from 11.50am, Engineering Faculty Seminar room, University of Peradeniya. 3. 6th IEEE ICIIS, from 16th to 19th of August, 2011. 4. WIE member representation in R10 SWG congress in Auckland, New Zealand, July 2011. Committee discussed about the future activities as well. Committee member Eng. A.P. Tennakoon raised the necessity of educating membership about the standards and practical applications (including hardware demonstrations) of optical fiber communication to upgrade Sri Lankan Industry. Since Central Region Sub Section can provide such expertise within membership, Dr. Vijitha Herath agreed to arrange a workshop or a seminar according to available facilities. After all above discussions ExCom meeting was adjourned around 19.00 hrs.
