Description

A talk on "Function of air traffic control (ATC) systems in modern day air transportation industry" Abstract This presentation demonstrates the function of air traffic control (ATC) systems in modern day air transportation industry. First, the importance of an ATC system and its fundamental components are presented. The steps involved in converting the three dimensional radar measurements to a form presentable on a two dimensional display are explained. Then, how air traffic controllers use this information to control airplanes is presented. Next, features of the state of the art ATC systems including GPS aided surveillance, multiple radar tracking, surveillance using multilateration and advanced tracking filters are described. Challenges involved in incorporating these essential features are also presented. Finally, how these challenges are overcome in designing an ATC system is described.
