Welcome speech by the last year president The meeting was commenced with the warmed welcome from the former president Akbo Rupasinghe. He talked about his experience with IEEE UOP in year 2012 and he further addressed the values and the benefits that the IEEE members can gain as student members. Since the signatures of the student society bank account “IEEE Student Branch, University of Peradeniya” (Sampath Bank acc no. 100760943337) had not been transferred to office bearers of 2012 committee, the former president suggested to transfer the signatures to the office bearers of 2013 committee. Since there were no objections, the suggestion was approved. Since the secretary and the treasurer of the year 2012 was absent the meeting moved towards the selection of office bearers of the IEEE UOP student branch for the year 2013. 2. Appointment of Office Bearers for the year 2013 Mr. W. C. D. Witharana was proposed as the new secretary of the Peradeniya student branch by Mr. Chathuranga Jayarathna and seconded by Mr. Kaveen Liyanage as the first step of appointing the members. Then the Mr.Chathuranga Jayarathna was proposed as the new president by Mr. Lali Devamanthri and Mr. Kavinda Tennakoon seconded it. Next, the new president assumed the office bay addressing the gathering. He thanked the members for electing him as the president of the IEEE UOP student branch for the year 2013 and conducted the AGM to elect following office bearers. Ideas from the audience Former IEEE student branch president Mr.Akbo Rupasinghe and Dr.Ruwan Ranaweera expressed their views about the opportunities present with in IEEE region 10 and motivate the audience regarding the taking up challenges with in student branch and within region 10. Then, the head department of electrical and electronic engineering, Dr.Atputharajah addressed the gathering regarding the important of ‘IEEE Xplore’ by emphasising about the reference sources that the students can utilise in their undergraduate projects. And also he motivated students to write research articles for the publication under the IEEE journals. 4. AGM was adjourned Finally Secretary Mr.Chathura Witharana delivered the vote of thanks by thanking Dr.A.Atputharaja (Head, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering), Dr. Maheshi Dissanayake, Dr.Ruwan Ranaweera, Dr.Vijitha Herath for their valuable presence and guidance offered, towards a successful the AGM. Also he requested all the members to provide their active contribution, during the year 2013, towards the success of the IEEE Student Chapter, University of Peradeniya while thanking for their valuable presence at the AGM. The AGM adjourned at 18.45 hrs, and refreshments were given afterwards
