[Legacy Report] IEEE Electronic Design Competition for University Undergraduate Students

Description

The first Electronic design competition for university undergraduate students organized by the IEEE Sri Lanka Section was held successfully with the participation of 18 groups with 54 students at three locations simultaneously on November 23rd 2013. The event was a one full day activity with groups arriving at each competition location at 8 a.m. on the day of the competition. The design task was given to the groups at 8:30a.m., along with all the necessary equipment and components. The students worked on the problem until 4:30 p.m. and judging was done after that by three independent panels of judges selected from the academia and the industry. Objectives: This activity was aimed at popularizing IEEE among the student community as well as to boost the electronic design interest and capabilities of Sri Lankan university students. Funding: Funding for the event came from 4 main sources. 1. IEEE R10 Educational Activities Committee provided $500 2. Orel Corporation Pvt. Ltd, (the sole distributors of Farnell products in Sri Lanka) provided Rs. 50,000 sponsorship. 3. Noratel International Pvt. Ltd., provided Rs. 50,000 sponsorship. 4. IEEE Sri Lanka Section provided Rs. 50,000.
