}The IEEE Sri Lanka Section community has picked up five IEEE-wide recognitions for 2025-2026, awarded by IEEE technical societies and global boards rather than at regional level. They span the Industry Applications Society, Member and Geographic Activities, the Systems Council, the Educational Activities Board, and the Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society.
This is the second part of the Section’s achievement round-up. The first covered six IEEE Region 10 recognitions, judged across the Asia-Pacific region. These five were judged IEEE-wide, which puts the work of Sri Lankan Chapters, students and volunteers up against submissions from every region.

The five recognitions in detail
01. Outstanding Large IAS Chapter Award 2025
Technical excellence · IEEE Industry Applications Society Sri Lanka Chapter
The IEEE Industry Applications Society Sri Lanka Chapter was named an Outstanding Large IAS Chapter for 2025. The award is judged at society level across the whole of IAS rather than within a single region, and it recognises sustained technical engagement, chapter growth and community impact.
02. MGA Exemplary Section Student Representative Award 2026
Student leadership · Uvindu Kodikara, University of Moratuwa
Uvindu Kodikara of the University of Moratuwa received the Exemplary Section Student Representative Award from IEEE Member and Geographic Activities, which recognises leadership, representation and service to the student community by a Section Student Representative.
03. IEEE Systems Council James O. Gray Graduate Scholarship 2026
Research excellence · Kulunu Weerasoory, University of Moratuwa
Kulunu Weerasoory of the University of Moratuwa was awarded the James O. Gray Graduate Scholarship by the IEEE Systems Council, recognising IEEE leadership together with systems engineering research aimed at enabling energy-efficient prosthetics in Sri Lanka.
04. IEEE Educational Activities Board Section Educational Activities Award

The IEEE Sri Lanka Section received the Section Educational Activities Award from the IEEE Educational Activities Board, recognising the Section’s contribution to advancing education, learning and professional development.
05. IEEE GRSS Chapter Excellence Award 2026
Chapter excellence · IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society Sri Lanka Chapter
The IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society Sri Lanka Chapter received the GRSS Chapter Excellence Award for 2026, recognising outstanding technical activities, member engagement and overall chapter performance.
Different fields, one standard
What ties these five together is how little they have in common. A large technical Chapter, a student representative, a graduate researcher, a Section education programme, and a specialist Chapter in geoscience and remote sensing. Different fields, assessed by different committees, against different criteria.
Across education, research, Chapter performance and individual leadership, these recognitions reflect the strength of the IEEE Sri Lanka community on the global stage.
